WACO, Texas -- Soccer star Mia Hamm, who won two World Cups
and two Olympic medals, was added Wednesday to the Texas Sports
Hall of Fame's class of 2007.
Hamm, who spent part of her high school career in Wichita Falls,
was to be inducted with the 2006 class but was pregnant with twins
and couldn't make last year's ceremony. The hall requires inductees
to attend the ceremony, set for March 11.
The 34-year-old competed on the U.S. women's soccer team for 18
years. She retired after the 2004 Athens Olympics.
Among the other inductees are former Dallas Cowboys receiver
Michael Irvin, Dallas Stars center Mike Modano, former Texas Tech
football coach Spike Dykes and former Houston Oilers and Texas A&M
star Ray Childress.
Also scheduled to be inducted are Granbury girls basketball
coach Leta Andrews, former Dallas Texans running back Abner Haynes,
and former Baylor and Cleveland Browns offensive lineman Jim Ray
Smith.
San Antonio Spurs coach Gregg Popovich was to be inducted but
has a scheduling conflict.
